OUR STAFF

John Alexander, Pastor

Pastor John Alexander was born and raised in Asheville, and he gave his life to Christ at the age of 13. The joys of his life are knowing Jesus as his Lord and Savior, being the husband of the love of his life Tonya, whom he married on April 23, 2016, and being the father of Sawyer and Lindsey. He has been the pastor of Oakley Baptist Church for over 3 years.

-Associate of Religion/Church Ministries, Fruitland Baptist Bible College
-Bachelor of Science in Religion, Liberty University
-Certificate in Church-Based Counseling, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
-Foundations in Bible and Theology Certificate; Elder Training Certificate, Western Seminary

Christie Rhom, Secretary

Christie was born and raised in Asheville, attending Grassy Branch Baptist Church and Reynolds High School. She has been the secretary at Oakley Baptist Church for over 20 years, and a member along with her husband Michael for over 30 years. She and Michael enjoyed watching their three girls grow up at Oakley, and are now the proud grandparents of two more girls.

Norma B. Carroll, Worship Leader

Norma grew up in Waynesville attending Allen’s Creek Baptist Church. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior when she was 10 years old. In her early teens, she felt God’s calling on her life and attended Piedmont Bible College. God brought her to Oakley Baptist Church in August 2007 where she serves as Worship Leader, Minister of Music, and Ladies Bible Study Leader.

Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

Anna Taylor, Pianist

Anna is an Asheville native, and has served Oakley Baptist Church as the pianist since 2020.

We are a body of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, who seek to love God and tolove people.

Our Mission

Our mission is to glorify God by reaching the lost of the Oakley community, thecity of Asheville, Buncombe County, and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Whois the only way to heaven and salvation, to help them grow as close to God as possible,and for them to experience everything God has planned for their lives.

What We Believe

I. God: There is only one true and living God, He is perfect, He is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe, and He eternally exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They
are co-equal and are One.

II. The Father: God is great, eternal, perfect, holy, all powerful, all knowing, everywhere present, and unchanging. Our Father is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.

III. The Son: Jesus Christ is the Father’s only begotten Son, Who is co-equal with the Father as God. He came to the earth born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life, willingly died a substitutionary death on the cross in our place
to pay the sin debt we could not pay, arose from the dead conquering death and sin, ascended back into heaven, and one day He is coming back to establish His kingdom on the earth.

IV. The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He guides the Christian into living a life of obedience to God, He convicts of sin and helps the Christian to understand spiritual truth. The Christian seeks to be guided until His control daily.

V. People: Men and women are the direct and supreme creation of God in His image. They are separated from God because of disobedience called sin, but can be saved from their sins if they surrender to Jesus Christ His Son.

VI. The Bible: The Bible is God’s holy Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit and is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. It is inspired
and breathed out by God; therefore, it is the truth and there are no errors in it.

VII. Salvation: Salvation is a gift from God to humans, and it comes only through trusting in Jesus Christ Who is Lord and Savior and asking Him to forgive you of your sins. Mankind can never do enough to pay their sin debt, they must accept the gift of everlasting life from Jesus, Who paid the sin debt on the cross.

VIII. The Church: The church is a body of baptized believers unified in faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who seek to glorify Him by fulfilling the Great Commission of reaching the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and by discipling them.

IX. Baptism: Baptism is an act of obedience declaring the believer’s faith that Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and resurrected. Baptism is through immersion which symbolizes the believer’s death to sin, burial of the old life, and raising up of the new life in Jesus Christ.
